Please share a memory of Nicholas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Nicholas Henry Lines, 18 of Homer passed away February 18, 2021. Nicholas, “Nick” Lines was a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew and friend to all who knew him. He was loved beyond measure by all. His sparkling blue eyes won everyone over because they resonated the beautiful soul he carried within him. Nick was employed at Gutchess Lumber and was always seen beaming from ear to ear driving the loader to remove snow. He had great passion for the outdoors; it was a sanctuary for Nick. His lengthy stride through the woods was well-known. The woods were his compass; he could feel the pulse of every tree in the forest and all the animals within its boundary. He loved to breathe in deeply Mother Nature’s fresh and wilderness air. His love of being in nature was a pure passion that provided Nick with hours of peace, joy and belonging. Nick was also known for his stellar athleticism. Gifted with incredible strength, coupled with his indomitable spirit and raw perseverance, he played sports for both St. Mary’s and Homer Central Schools throughout his high school years. He was a force to be reckoned with on the wrestling mat and the football field. His skill set and talents carried HCSD to many wins. During the winter season, he enjoyed endless hours of ice fishing and could also be found traveling at tremendous speed on his snowmobile or his snowboard down the slopes of Labrador Mountain with family and friends. Hunting and fishing with his dad, brothers and family friends was his steadfast passion, it made his heart beat faster. During these outdoor activities, the camaraderie felt by all the Lines’ men was palpable. Nick was also known in the East Homer valley for his creative engineering skills. He jerry-rigged irrigation lines from PVC piping, a snowplow removal system with a side by side, chains and an one enormous log. If anyone needed a dual-purpose hockey -lacrosse stick, Nick was the man for the task. He could dismantle anything and create a brand-new item out of spare parts he scavenged from the countryside. His history of pranks and sense of humor was enjoyed by everyone in his family and community. His generous spirit and benevolent nature to all will be forever remembered by those who knew him. Every time the wind blows across our faces we will smile warmly and be reminded of the amazing young man we all loved and cherished.
