Obituary of Joy Smith

Joy Antoinette Smith, 33, passed away on March 21, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. Joy was born on August 25, 1987. Originally from Marathon, Joy lived in Ithaca for many years before moving to Cortland where she spent her final years. Joy loved art as a hobby which she showed in photography and artwork. Gardening, was a passion that Joy inherited from her mother & grandmother & then passed it on to her daughter Adrianna who is fourth in this generation of women. She learned from Joy how to transplant whatever she could get her hands on, usually coming from friends & her Mothers garden. Houseplants fill the inside of the home as well. This tough as nails girl, got the job done, whether it be changing a tire or helping her best friend Myia completely rehabilitate her home. These two girls we're a team that could accomplish any task & challenge presented to them. Motherhood was her most valued attribute. She was a strong, determined mother that fearlessly raised her children to be honest, kind, generous and she passed onto them her ability to be strong and to stand up for what they believed in. Joy had unending love for her partner Janay who was an amazing caregiver to Joy, especially during her final days. This lover of life and Gods creations brought her on many road trips, often to state land to allow her children to explore and take it all in. There was little she wouldn't try, and even less she couldn't accomplish. She was courageous and loved fearlessly. She was a daughter, a sister, a mother, a lover and a friend. She is survived by her parents David Smith and Renee Moshier; her children Adrianna, Julien, and Dominic; her siblings Maximus Moshier and Kaylin Smith; her grandparents Robin and Nick Dalfonso, and Ruby and pre-deceased Richard Smith; her aunts Elaina Kreutzer, Noelle Dalfonso, and Jeanne Smith, her uncles Jonah Dalfonso and Jerry Smith; her partner Janay Hayes, and her best friend Myia Boda.
