Obituary of Reuben Chester "Chet" Beardsley

Reuben Chester "Chet" Beardsley, 93, of Cortland, NY, passed away on Sunday May 9, 2021. He was born on December 3, 1927, the son of the late Ralph and Estella Woodford Beardsley. Chet was a lifelong resident of the area and attended Virgil School. Throughout his life he enjoyed fishing, boating, snowmobiling, motorcycling and woodworking. Chet worked as a Service Manager for O'Shea Tire and Service Center for many years, and a hobby of his was working on his tractor during his spare time. Chet is survived by his daughters Tamara Beardsley and Kimberly (Scott) Roman, his grandson Cal Bacon, his great granddaughter Lea Bacon. He is also survived by his longtime companion Evelyn VanLiew, her children and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his mother and father, Ralph and Estella Woodford Beardsley, his siblings, Louise Dains, Dorothy McHerron and Newton Beardsley. A memorial service will be held on Friday May 21, 2021 at 11am at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland, NY. Pastor Stephanie Brown will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Virgil Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of ones choice in his name.
