Reed Francis Gabriel Nichols, 40, of Augusta, Georgia passed away unexpectedly in his brother's home on June 6 due to complication of chronic sleep apnea. Reed is formerly from Cortland and was here visiting family and friends. He has been living in Augusta, Georgia for the past several years with the two loves of his life, partner Nicole Snell and his beautiful 3 year old daughter Everly. Reed was born in Cortland, NY on March 9, 1981. He attended Groton Schools and for the past 18 years has worked in the telecommunications field. He was very good at his job and climbed the ladder quickly. He was a good provider for his family and well respected at his job. The other loves in Reed's life were football and basketball. He became a Miami Dolphin fan at a young age and remained a loyal fan until his death! The Syracuse Orangemen were his favorite basketball team. He never missed a game and usually had Everly by his side cheering them on. Despite many hardships in Reed's life he was joyful and happy with the thing he wanted most, a family. He was a wonderful father and a loving, thoughtful and kind companion to Nikki. He was a gentle soul. Reed is survived by his father Kenneth Nichols and step mother Robin (Babcock) Nichols of Locke, NY; his mother Joanne Cordner of Dryden, NY; his loving companion Nicole Snell and daughter Everly Nichols of Georgia; his brother Ryan and nephew Rory Nichols of Cortland; his brother Justin Nichols and family of Vancouver, Washington; his many aunts, uncles and cousins and Nicole's loving, supportive family in Georgia. Reed is predeceased by his sister Holly Hull who passed 20 years ago, on June 25. They were best friends. May you both be together again! A celebration of life will be held 2-5 PM Saturday, June 19 at Homer Community Center, directly behind the fire station. You can pay respects and visit with friends and family. Drinks and music will be provided, bring a dish to pass if you like. This will be a family friendly event, kids are encouraged to come, and business casual dress is appropriate.
