Obituary of Dawn S. Odinek

Dawn Smith Odinek left this world to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 24, 2021. She is having a special reunion with her parents Norris and Ruth Smith, Brother Douglas Smith, Sister, Lois Harold, Husband Louis and Daughter Marie. She is survived by her granddaughter Becky (Matt) Lowie, grandson Ian (Mackenzie Steuart) Dann, great grandchildren Ella and Brynn Lowie, Matteo Pitts, Milo and Lena Dann; siblings, Mary Laing, Hugh (Donna) Smith and many nieces and nephews. Dawn graduated from Marathon Central School and Cortland State Teachers College. She taught in Johnson City and retired from the First National Bank of Cortland in 1993. She was involved in many community and banking organizations and activities over the years. Most recently, the Marathon Christmas Baskets and visiting adult nursing facilities with her Therapy Dog, Sweat Pea. Dawn was a 60 plus year member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church now, the Catholic Community of St. Stephen-St. Patrick. Her church was very special to Dawn and she was involved as a greeter, minister and lector. Dawn believed that every person was special and deserved to be treated with dignity and respect. She believed that animals were a gift from God and should be treated as such. There will be no calling hours. The funeral mass will be held in St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, on Friday at 11 AM with Rev. Corey Van Kuren as a celebrant. IF YOU MEET ME AND FORGET ME YOU HAVE LOST NOTHING. IF YOU MEET JESUS CHRIST AND FORGET HIM YOU HAVE LOST EVERYTHING. In lieu of flowers, take time to visit someone who is lonely and make them feel special and needed.
