Obituary of Elizabeth Ludewig

Elizabeth G. Ludewig, 87, died at home September 17 2021 after a long struggle with post-polio syndrome. She resided at 3817 Highland Rd., Cortlandville, and also had a summer home in Roxbury, NY.
She was born Elizabeth Anne Goddard in Brooklyn, NY May 8, 1934. After graduation from Syracuse University she worked as a reporter and copy editor for daily newspapers in New York City, Pottstown, PA, and Rochester. She married Joseph E. Ludewig August 16, 1958. They moved to Cortland in 1966.
She worked many years as a sorter for the Cortland Free Library annual book sales, was a frequent blood donor and had been a literacy tutor and early trustee of The 1890 House. Family, friends, food, books, music and The New York Times were important to her.
Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Katherine of Broadalbin, and Jenny (Jay) Shain of San Jose, CA; a son, David (Robin) of Toluca Lake, CA; a sister, Jane Conner of Pasadena, CA; five grandchildren, Nathaniel and Benjamin Ludewig of New York City, Harry Ludewig of Toluca Lake, and Elena and Gabriel Shain of San Jose.
No services will be held. She donated her body to medical research and requested memorial contributions be made to the public library of your choice.
