Lewis "Jim" VanWagenen
It is with sad and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father and "Poppy" on Sunday, October 24th at his home in Truxton.
Jim was born on October 28, 1947 and graduated from Truxton Central School in 1965. He served in the US Army from 1970-1972 and was honorably discharged. He had a 30 year career with the US Postal Service as a mail carrier. Jim was a well-known and respected softball umpire for many years and also coached youth basketball in Truxton.
Jim is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda, daughter Melissa (Dan) Partigianoni and their children Hannah and Andrew, son Matthew (Andrea) VanWagenen and their children Kendalyn, Koleton, Karlee and Kollin, great grandchildren Jace and Annabella, brother Robert (Dorothy) VanWagenen, sisters Gail (Joe) Nye and Patricia Kranbuhl.
He was predeceased by his parents, Elizabeth and Lewis VanWagenen, mother and father in law Sally and John Lansdowne and a daughter Christina who passed away shortly after birth.
Jim's greatest joy was the family he loved so much. He especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities and was a proud supporter of all their sporting events. Jim also loved reading and collecting antique banks.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 29th from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at St. Patrick's Church in Truxton, NY. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Rev. Joseph Zareski on Saturday, October 30th at 10:00 am at St. Patrick's Church.
Those wishing to make a memorial contribution may consider St. Jude Children's Hospital, a cause near and dear to his heart. Ever thankful for healthy grandchildren, he wanted every child to have the same opportunity.
You will forever be in our hearts. The greater the love, the greater the loss.
