Obituary of Herbert Habermehl

Herbert A. Habermehl, 91, of Cortland, NY, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, October 28,
2021, at the Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, NY.
Herb was born June 23, 1930, in Hespeler (now Cambridge), Ontario, Canada, son of the late
Clarence and Vera (Waumsley) Habermehl.
He was a graduate of the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada with a B.A.Sc.
degree in chemical engineering. He moved to Cortland in 1987, and worked at Albany
International for 10 years before retirement, having worked previously for Chemcell Ltd., Xerox
Corporation, and Burroughs Corporation. Herb was a member of the Berean Bible Church,
Cortland, NY, where he had been a Deacon and Trustee. Bible study was his passion, and he
enjoyed talking to anyone he met about his faith. A major project was the book he authored on
biblical interpretation, God Has Spoken But What Has He Said? He played violin in the Cortland
College Community Orchestra for many years, and previously in the Finger Lakes Symphony
Orchestra. He liked biking and running when younger. Maple syrup and fruit cake were favorite
foods.
Herb is survived by his wife, Anne (Brubacher) Habermehl, daughter, Lucille (Ralph)
VanDemark, sons Ralph (Tina) Habermehl, and David (Julie) Habermehl, brother, Fred
Habermehl, 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 16 nieces and 6 nephews. In addition to his
parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Louise (Groat) Habermehl.
Visitation will take place at the Berean Bible Church on Rte. 13, Cortland, Saturday Nov. 6 at 1
pm, followed by a memorial service at 2 pm. Immediately afterward there will be a graveside
service at the Cortland Rural Cemetery on Tompkins St. for family and friends.
