To Tess and all the kids: My heart breaks for all of you. Papa Joe was a wonderful kind loving man. It was an honor to have him as my brother in law. He'll forever be loved and missed...Love to you all Judy Hemingway Doughty
My blonde haired angel and first love. The father of our beautiful daughter Jocelyn. The two of us eloped to Las Vegas on a springtime whim and I gained a wonderful extended family. There was a restlessness in your soul and a sorrow oft hanging over your shoulder...I was wont to soften the psychic pain. I know there was not a mean measure in any choice you ever made and always knew the depth of love you had for me and ours. May you lie on gossamer wings of comfort and hit the ball out of the park. ...I will forever remember making mud pies in our backyard, and sharing too much baby aspirin just because they're delicious, and the midnight run to 7-11 for Pepsi. I wish we'd had more time together over the last decade. I am so grateful for the recent trips you made to So. California. I am so happy we were able to take that trip to Reno during your last visit and that you were able to spend time with Jocelyn. I know that you have made a profound impact in the lives of many people, and I was so happy to witness how much you are loved by all of them including all your family there too. Your New York family welcomed us with warmth and love and I know that there loss is very substantial. Everyone who has known you will hold you in their hearts forever. I have been so blessed to have been your sister and will miss you terribly. I know you will hold a place for those of us in heaven who have been left behind. I hope that Mom and Susan will be there to welcome you to heaven and that there will be peace for all of you. I wish for comfort and swift mending of our broken hearts for all the wonderful friends and family you've left behind. We'll all remember you whenever we see a flock of geese in the sky and we'll know you are right close by should we be visited by a lone goose. Thank you for showing all of us exactly what unconditional love really is. Thanks for being a wonderful and loving brother, son, husband, father, grandfather and mentor. I love you, Joe. Your sister, Betsy.
