Obituary of Nancy Barrett

Please share a memory of Nancy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On December 31, 2021, Nancy Ashe Barrett passed away at age 82 at the Misty Glen Nursing Home after a brief battle with cancer. Nancy was born and raised in Syracuse, NY but lived 55 years of her life in Cortland, NY with her husband and their sons. When Nancy's sons were young, the phrase "stay-at-home-mom" didn't exist. Though she worked occasionally, her focus was her children and their friends, many of whom considered her their second Mom. Her door was open to all and she always ensured that every child who crossed her threshold was safe, healthy, and happy. Nancy's other passion was reading. She was a lover of many genres and was proud to have read over 50,000 books in her lifetime. She is survived by her brother John T. Ashe (Pat Ashe) of Louisville, KY and her four sons: John Alan Barrett (Paula Rodriguez) of Mill Creek, WA; Patrick Alan Barrett (LaRisa DeYoung) of Seattle, WA; Todd Alan Barrett of Cortland, NY; and Lee Alan Barrett of Jersey City, NJ and grandson, Benjamin (Lisa) Barrett of Cortland, NY. Nancy was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Alan R. Barrett; mother, Josephine Corbet-Ashe; father, John Ashe; two sisters, Geraldine K. Ashe and Judith Ashe-Klug. Services will be private at the Wright Beard Funeral home. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations to Friends of the Tompkins County Public Library (http://www.friendsoftcpl.org/) or your local library can be made in Nancy's name.
