Obituary of Joseph J. Discenza

Joseph Discenza passed away on January 20, 2022, at Upstate Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Joe dedicated his life to serving the Cortland community as a longtime teacher at Cortland High School and serving as an alderman on the Cortland City Common Council. His passion for education continued as an adjunct faculty member at TC3 as well as a summer school principal at Homer High School. Joe earned an associates degree from TC3 and attended Syracuse University before earning a bachelor's degree, master's degree, and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Education Administration from SUNY Cortland. Joe was a long-time member of the Cortland ELKS lodge and the Cortland Aeromodellers club. He enjoyed spending time with his buddies talking, building and flying model airplanes. Joe is survived by his wife Linda (Corsi) of 51 years, his children Peter, Patsy, and Kara. As well as grandchildren Zachary, Landon, and Kaylei. His brother Michael (Jacquie) His Sister-in-laws Debbie Dee (Alan) and Patricia (Don) Hudson in addition to many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister Mary Ann. Joe's jovial spirit and loving ways will be held in our hearts forever. Rest In Peace our Joe. There will be no calling hours or reception after the service. The funeral services will be held in private. In lieu of flowers contributions to the St. Jude Children's Fund would be appreciated.
