Obituary of Joyce M McEvoy

Joyce M. McEvoy, of Cortland, passed away on January 28, 2022 at the Guthrie Cortland Medical Center. Joyce was born on November 26, 1927 in Cortland to her parents the late Austin Pursey and Jenny Ames Pursey. A lifetime member of the community, she started her career at Brewer Titchner as a secretary, before co-owning G. E. McEvoy RV Sales and Service with her loving husband Gerald Edward McEvoy who predeceased her in 1992. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church of Cortland. As an avid gardener, she was especially fond of African Violets. She was even a member of the Cortland Gardeners African Violets Club. Joyce looked forward to taking trips with her late husband to Florida in the winter months. She also was on the committee of the Republican Party for several years. She is survived by her sons Michael (Susan) McEvoy and Kevin (Karen) McEvoy; grandchildren Sara McEvoy, Amy Forden, Katie Weber, Kary McEvoy, and Sara Glynn; as well as great-grandchildren, Adam, Alexander, Ian, and Addison. A memorial mass will take place in the spring. Burial will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society in Joyce's name.
