Obituary of Joyce Tytler

Please share a memory of Joyce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edith Joyce Tytler, 86, of Cortland, NY passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday January 28, 2022. She was born on April 19, 1935, in DeRuyter, NY. Joyce was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She worked as a stay-at-home mom and was able to spend a lot of time with her children throughout her life. Joyce loved her husband, "Bobby," dearly. They enjoyed dancing the night away and listening to country music. Joyce was an artist, who loved painting nature scenes, enjoyed quilting and reading. When her children were younger, she loved making their Halloween costumes which many times won creativity awards and continued that tradition with her grandchildren. She loved cooking Sunday and Holiday dinners for her family. Joyce was an excellent cook, which worked out well because her late husband was an excellent eater. Joyce was an avid New York Yankees baseball fan who cheered loudly and, to the amusement of her family, was known to use colorful language when her Yankees were not winning. Joyce is survived by her daughter Becky (Rich) Barrows, her sons Bruce (Carol) Tytler and Paul (Barbara) Tytler, her two granddaughters Rachael (Ryan) Murray and Sarah Tytler, her two great grandsons Joe and Ben Murray, her sisters Janet Coye, Janice (Eric) Trass, Viola (Stephen) Conklin, her brothers William (Adele) Thompson and Dale Thompson, sisters Deborah (Richard) Nadge, Elizabeth (Bradley) Finn, and Yvonne Thompson and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is predeceased by her loving husband Robert D. Tytler Jr., of 67 years, and her parents Albert and Mary Palmer Thompson and her brothers Richard Thompson, Wayne Thompson, Kenneth Thompson, and Jeffrey Thompson. Joyce met the challenges of being the oldest of thirteen children. She was often tasked with caring for her younger siblings, and she provided them with support and love. Several of them came to regard her as "little mother." Although Alzheimer's took away her ability to remember many of us, it could not take away her sense of humor. She maintained that sense of humor and love of laughter to the very end. Joyce was loving, generous and kind. She will be missed. Calling hours will be held on Saturday February 5, 2022, from 1-3pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln, Ave., Cortland, NY. A funeral service will follow at 3pm. The family requests anyone wishing to pay their respects to please wear a mask as young unvaccinated children will be present. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 13 Beach St., Johnson City, NY 13790 or to the Alzheimer's Association, Central New York Chapter, Franklin Square Station Box 12226, Syracuse, NY 13218.
