David J. Camp Obituary
David J. Camp, 87, from Cortlandville, went home to be with his Lord on June 17, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.
Dave was born in Cortland, NY, on November 23, 1934, to Dorothy and Jacob Camp. He attended Cortland schools, then graduated from The Stony Brook Prep. School in Stony Brook, NY, in 1953. Dave enjoyed competing in basketball and cross-country running while in school. He also gained a love of the St. Lawrence River when visiting his grandparents there. The River became a larger part of his
life when Kismet Island became the family summer home in 1973. Dave engaged in several business enterprises including East River Packing Company and Copetco, Inc. In later life he was happiest helping with Spruce Haven Farm owned by the Young family in Union Springs, NY.
Dave is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Joyce Randall Camp and their four children: Daniel Camp, Janet (Doug) Young, Ginger (Mark) Kandle, Peter (Diane) Camp. He has 20 dear grandchildren who were all his favorite people to spend time with and there will soon be 10 great grand-children. Dave joins his two sisters and their spouses in heaven: Patricia (Verle) Holsteen and Jean (Don) Lindholm. He is survived by their children—his cherished nieces and nephews.
Dave and Joyce met at Memorial Baptist Church in Cortland and were faithful members there for over 50 years. They are now part of the McGrawville Baptist Church in McGraw, NY. Dave enjoyed sharing the love and warmth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, with as many people as possible—especially by singing His praises in the hymns of the church.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Grace Christian Fellowship, Cortland, on Sunday, June 26, with Visiting beginning at 1:00 p.m. and the Celebration starting at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to the Cortland Bible Club Camp, Pitcher, NY.
