Obituary of Fanny V. Anthony

Fanny V. Anthony passed away peacefully on July 9, 2022. She was born on July 14 th , 1927 to George
and Mary Vahamikos. She attended Johnson City high school and excelled on their varsity basketball
and field hockey teams. She was also an active service volunteer in clubs run through the Y.W.C.A. Her
family regularly attended the local Greek Orthodox Church and through that social network she met the
love of her life Constantine 'Gus' Anthony. They married in the summer of 1953 and spent 53 wonderful
years together.
During her adult life Fanny raised her three children, volunteered in numerous organizations, and played
the sport of her passion, golf. She was a board member at the Y.M.C.A., long-time volunteer at Cortland
Memorial Hospital, worked on several committees for the CCC women's golf association and was a
member of her Greek church's Philoptochos society.
Fanny adored her eight grandchildren and attended many of their activities, high school and college
graduations.
Fanny cherished her life in Cortland and stayed very active. She enjoyed playing bridge and other card
games; she enjoyed Y.W.C.A. morning workouts and her morning coffee meetings with friends. Her
residence at The Village Park facilitated loving relationships with her neighbors that she cherished.
Fanny continued to attend her lifelong family church in Vestal.
She is survived by her three children, Mike (Jena) of Waterbury Center, VT, Mary Ann Jensen (Paul) of
Dresher, PA; and Paul (Liz) of Winston-Salem, NC; eight grandchildren Avery and Connor Anthony, Eric,
Michael and Matthew Jensen, Thomas, Maria, and Grace Anthony.
Calling hours will be 5-7 PM Tuesday at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave, Cortland.
