Meredith Wells (5/29/1933-8/15/2022) Meredith Wells passed peacefully to join her loved ones eagerly awaiting her arrival on 8/15/2022. She was surrounded by loved ones and angels, under hospice care. She spent the last moments of this life in her favorite place with her closest family. Meredith Wells led a full and beautiful life. Meredith Wells was born Meredith Erickson on May 29th, 1933 to LeRoy and Martha Erickson and was the middle child of three (Ronald Erickson and Beverly White). She graduated from Groton High School in 1951. After graduating high school, Meredith took classes at SUNY Cortland. Meredith Erickson became Meredith Wells on 12/26/1953 marrying the love of her life, Donald Wells. She went to work for the Bell Telephone, where she worked her entire career. Meredith did take several years leave to raise her children. Returning to work at the Bell Telephone she earned an impressive management status and retired from the job that she loved in 1994. Upon retirement she started a Creative Memories consulting business for scrapbooking and keepsakes that she operated out of her home for many years. Meredith Wells also dedicated much of her time to volunteerism. She was an active member in the Homer First United Methodist Church, she volunteered for the Cortland County Area of the Aging, volunteered at the hospital and taught Defensive Driving for Cortland County. She was very proud of being a driving force in the Groton School District Alumni and dedicated many hours organizing reunions and creating scrapbooks for the events. Central in her life were the close relationships of family and a wide-circle of friends. Meredith is predeceased by her devoted husband Donald Wells, her loving parents LeRoy and Martha Erickson, her In-laws Arthur and Dorothy Wells, her sister-in-law Kate Erickson, nephew Paul Erickson, brother-in-law Bill Wells, Marylin and Laverne Hine, and great-grand nephew Jackson Call. Many people were waiting to welcome her with angel wings and to get the party started! Meredith leaves behind many loving family members and a large circle of friends and acquaintances. She is survived by her daughter Martha Wells, her son John Wells (Karyn) and two grandchildren Karah Wells and Luke Wells whom she adored, brother Ronald Erickson and family, sister Beverly (Steve) White and family, sister-in law Pat Wells and family, Pete and Beverly Wells and family, David and Jane Wells and family, Dick and Berna Wells and family, and many cousins, nephews and nieces. Furthermore, Meredith Wells loved adventures and travel. She took many trips to see family and friends. Some of her favorites were Alberta, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, North Carolina, and Massachussetts. She loved to host 'get-togethers' and parties. She cherished her time with her dinner groups on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 'the club'. Calling hours will be held at Wright-Beard Funeral Home in 9 Lincoln Ave, Cortland, NY on Wednesday, 8/24/22 from 10 to 11:45 am followed by a brief funeral service, which will be held from noon to 12:45 pm. Thank you to all the people that made Meredith Wells' life so exceptionally rich with love. A special thank you to Dena and her nursing team and hospice for the excellent care at the end of Meredith's life. In lieu of flowers, donations in Meredith Wells' name can be made to the Groton Alumni Association-General Fund, PO Box 42, Groton NY 13073.
