Ward C. DuBois, 89, of Homer NY, passed away at the Cortland Regional Medical Center on Saturday December 10, 2011. He was born in Preble NY, on January 11, 1922, the son of Floyd C. and Edith Long DuBois.
During WWII, he served in the European Theatre as Corporal in the Red Horsers Mechanized Cavalry Unit of the US Army. A decorated soldier, he received the Purple Heart, the Germany Army of Occupation Medal, and the Efficiency, Honor and Fidelity Medal.
Ward was a fifty year member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 545, and a 30-year member of the Homer Elks Lodge 2506.
He is survived by his daughters, Dianne (William) Higgins of Cortland, and Deborah DuBois of Atlanta, GA, his beloved companion Carol Mitchell, daughter-in-law Kathleen DuBois, grandsons Brian and Mason Young and Morgan and Ryan DuBois and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannette, his son, Dale, his brothers Dana and Gary, and his sister-in-law Tillie Hunt.
Services will be Thursday December 15, 2011 at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland NY, 13045. The family will receive friends 4-5:45 pm with an Elks Memorial Service to begin 6 pm, followed by a service led by Rev. Dr. Janet Adair Hansen, concluding with Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the charity of ones choice.
Debbie and Diane, I am so sorry to hear about your father's passing. I will always remember his humor and warmth and when he would call me "Slink". My thoughts are with at this time. I will never forget your support when my father passed in December 1986. Love, Janet
