Obituary of Elizabeth A. Cassin
Please share a memory of Elizabeth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Elizabeth A. Cassin, 64, of Slaterville went home to the Lord on Saturday, August 20, 2022. Liz was born May 26, 1958, the daughter of the late Henry and Joyce Lavine of Berkshire. She graduated from Newark Valley High School on June 27, 1976 and married the love of her life, Chuck Cassin, the very next day. They eventually settled in the Slaterville area.
Liz spent a number of years as a volunteer and later an aide at Dryden Central School. She then worked at the JoAnn Fabrics in Triphammer, Hope's Way Cafe, and finally Brookton's Market in Brooktondale where she served as the manager until she retired. She was an active member of Berean Bible Church in Cortland for over twenty years, and she enjoyed participating with the Ithaca Women's Bible Study following her retirement. In addition, she served as the president of the Dryden Senior Citizens, a role she cherished.
The middle of seven children and five "Lavine girls," Liz was very close with her family and spent a lot of time visiting, taking care of nieces and nephews, playing cards and horseshoes, and making everyone laugh. When she wasn't with family or serving in various capacities, you could find her working in her gardens, reading her Bible with her husband, making her grandson giggle, listening to a good sermon, sewing and crafting, or watching a Hallmark movie. She loved butterflies and lasagna and anything purple. She was always ready to pray for someone or offer a listening ear, and she lived her life to bring glory and honor to the Lord.
In addition to her husband Chuck, Liz is survived by her daughter Jessica (Claud) Mitchell and grandson Joseph, siblings Lena (Ed) Sherwood, Bill (Lori) Lavine, Sue (Jay) Langton, Darlene (Bob) Wait, Polly (Doug) Cron, and John (Autumn) Lavine, brothers-in-law Ed (Tina) Cassin and Lee (Diana) Cassin, and a sister-in-law Laurie (Wayne) Nighbert, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Calling hours will be held at Berean Bible Church in Cortland on Friday, August 26, from 6 to 7:30 PM. A memorial service will be held with Pastor Bruce Buchanan officiating at Dryden Baptist Church on Saturday, August 27, at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Berean Bible Church, 726 NY-13, Cortland, NY 13045. The family would also like to thank Hospice for their tender care.
