Christine M. Parmiter, 96, longtime resident of Glen Haven, passed away September 10, 2022 at the Cortland Guthrie Nursing Home. She was born February 6, 1926 in Cortland the daughter of the late Lester and Grace Downing. Christine graduated from Scott Union School and soon after worked at the Cortland Savings Bank and then Thompson Boat Company. Her memberships included the Eastern Star and Glen Haven Scott Historical Society. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, being outdoors, bingo, and pitch. She is survived by her sons Dave (Linda) Parmiter, Thomas (Connie) Parmiter, six grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Christine is predeceased by her husband, LaVerne Parmiter, her brother, Edgar Downing, and her sisters, Olivia Hamilton and June Spencer. A calling hour will be held Friday 12 to 1 with a funeral service to begin 1 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland NY 13045. Burial will follow at the Scott Union Cemetery. Christine was an independent minded person who loved her family deeply and will be greatly missed.
