Obituary of Edna C. Sloan

Edna Maida Christina Erb Sloan died December 3, 2011, at her home in Cortland, New York. She was born April 13, 1922, in Huntington Station, NY, to William and Wilhelmina Erb. She married Thomas Martin Sloan on June 7, 1945. Edna and Tom moved to Cortland, NY, in 1952 with their four sons, and moved to a small farm on the hill outside Cortland in 1959 where Edna and Tom lived until their deaths.
Edna was a successful insurance agent and business owner for more than 30 years and was a founder and partner in the Owen and Tucci Insurance Agencies.
She was active in the local Senior Citizen Card Group and was also a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliaries for many years. Prior to her husband Toms death in 1996, they enjoyed visiting their children and grandchildren in the Southeastern and Midwestern United States. They enjoyed traveling and celebrated their 50th anniversary with a cruise to Alaska. Edna loved playing cards especially pitch when friends or relatives would visit and games often lasted almost the whole day.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers, Fred Erb and William Erb, and by her sister Dorothy Dunning and her husband Robert. Thomas Martin Sloan, her husband, died in 1996.
She is survived by her sons, Thomas joseph Sloan and wife Gail, Lawrence, KS; Frederick William Sloan and wife Shawn, Forest, VA; Edward Michael Sloan, Cortland, NY; James Patrick Sloan, Tully, NY; seven grandchildren: Wendi Lee Sloan Manley and husband Jeremy.; Michael Sloan and wife Mary; Stacy Sloan Poindexter and husband Rob; Jenna McCoy and husband Corey; Lynnette Marie Wood; and Keith Nettles and wife Michelle; and eight great grandchildren, Sloan and Caden Manley; Ryan and Spencer Sloan; Payton and Ty Poindexter; and Cooper and Hunter McCoy.
Her Special Extended Family includes Hazel and Charlie Freer and Stephany Keans who were always there when she needed something or just to visit.
At the request of the family no services are planned. The family suggests memorials be given to the organization of the donors choice.
