We can't remember when we met Doris and Julio -- at least 15 years ago or more. We knew each other from the college and from being parishioners at St. Margaret's in Homer
It was always a pleasure to see her, always so welcoming.
Years ago we would meet at each other's houses for a meal then play Michigan rummy. At one point, when it was in its heyday, we tried Texas Holdem Poker -- gave that up real fast!! We always had fun, especially when she shared the stories of how she and Julio met, and their early years together. (She told him she played tennis when she didn't, just to meet him!!!)
Doris loved her chocolate, so we made sure we brought her chocolate from our trips, locally and abroad.
When we were finally allowed to wed legally, Doris and Julio were our witnesses. We have many pictures of their smiling faces, giving us support, going out for drinks, and later for dinner.
Doris will be missed. We express our condolences to Julio and Doris's families.

Doris and her husband, Julio, were lifelong friends with my Mom and Dad, Agnes and Gene Bierbaum. I remember when I was considering a career in secondary school business education, Doris invited me to sit in on some of the classes she taught at Homer High School. She was an awesome teacher and wonderful person.

Dear Julio and family:
I cherish my time with Doris when she served on the Board of Directors at the YWCA and chaired the Human Resources Committee. She also served on the Finance Committee, and her business background helped keep the YWCA a well managed and successful organization. As Doris became less mobile, and I retired from the YWCA, I still had the pleasure of her company at Fortnightly. We sat together at the late November meeting and had a lovely chat. I will miss her kind and gentle spirit greatly. Amy Simrell

I just recently met Doris during a trip to New York last year with Kelley Vaughn. I remember Doris offered to make me coffee but when I got it, it was ice cold. I thought this is how they drank their coffee so I didn't complain. When Doris finally sat down to sip her own coffee, she realized her mistake and laughed that I was sitting there trying to drink that "hogwash".
I'm so sorry to hear of Doris' passing. She was a wonderful woman. Julio and her family are in my thoughts and prayers.

I offer my condolences to Doris' family and Julio. My memories of Doris go back to when I taught at Homer Central School and when I was greeted by Doris and Julio at St. Margaret's Church. She was always engaging and a delight to enter into conversation. Thoughts and prayers to all.
