Walter Benjamin, 81, of Cortland, passed away on January 8, 2023 at Crown Park Nursing and Rehabilitation. Walter was born on March 17, 1941 in Vestal to his parents, the late Walter Benjamin and Louise Cornelius. After moving to the area, Walter lived most of his life in the area. His working career was made up at Wickwire Brothers, Homer Laundry Cleaners, Cornell University, Lourdes Hospital, and Ames Linen. In his time of leisure, he enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time with his family. Walter was also a past member of the Cortland and Homer Lions Clubs. He is survived by his children, Roger (Koreen) Benjamin, Terry Benjamin, Debbie (Robby) Terry, and Brian (Debbie) Houck; his siblings Wayne Benjamin, Bettie Brown, Janet Doty; a son-in-law Douglas Breed; grandchildren Lorie Bethel, Jamie Breed, Megan Cobb, Jordan Terry, and Brendon Houck; and great-grandchildren Kimmy Hudson, Daryen Bethel, Gabby Cobb, and Izzie Cobb. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife Mary; his daughter Brenda Breed; brothers Donald Benjamin, Howard Benjamin, Dale Benjamin, and Ed Benjamin; and grandchildren Jason Hurlburt and Evyn Houck. Services are not currently scheduled at this time. The family wishes to thank Crown Park for the excellent care he received during his stay there.
