Obituary of James L. Belknap

James L. Belknap, Sr., 89, of McGraw. NY passed away Saturday, February 25, 2023 at the Select Specialty Hospital- The Villages in Oxford, Florida. He was born in Cortland, NY on September 13, 1933, the second child of five children, to the late Vivian and Joyce (Parsons) Belknap. Jim was well known in the area as a mason contractor and operated his own business, Jim Belknap Concrete, for thirty years. From a young age, he learned the value of hard work. When he could, he liked to dance and tell a joke or two. In the end, he passed peacefully, trusting God’s Word. He was predeceased by his wife Faye, son Stephen, sisters Joan Root and Jacqueline Cook. Survivors are his children James (Mary) Belknap, Jr., Lori (Daniel) Allen, Valerie (Burdette) Hall, Jean Swisher and Matthew (Lisa) Belknap; sisters June Paser and Jean Jacobi, 16 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Saturday, March 11, 2023 11-1pm at the McGraw United Methodist Church, McGraw, NY, funeral at 1pm, and reception to follow in the downstairs dining room. Pastor Francis Cochran will officiate. Wright-Beard Funeral Home will be overseeing and condolences may be sent to their address or website.
