James Arden DeHart, 85, of Cortland, passed away on March 9, 2023 at home. He was born on April 17, 1937, in Cortland, to his parents the late Raymond DeHart and Frances Bell DeHart. A graduate of Homer Central High School, James made his career as an Operating Engineer. He was always a hardworking man, enjoyed hunting, camping, and working around his yard and fishpond. James is survived by his loving family, children Debbie (Ken) Hoyt, Diane Teribury, Sandra (Ken) Dugan, and James Hile; grandchildren Mike DeHart, Stacey Hatfield, Jamie Hoyt, Melissa Fox, Jennifer Compagni, Brock Towers, Teresa Davis, Ashley Newton and Jim Hile Jr.; his great grandchildren Brytney, Dylan, Aidan, Aria, Mia, Devin, Cayden, Syara, Brenden, and Courtney; brother William (Helen) DeHart and sister Dorothea (Randy) Fitzsimmons and many nieces and nephews. His family would like to thank his neighbors Jeff and Jennifer for all their kindness and help throughout his illness, we are all so grateful. Also, would like to thank Hospice for your help which allowed us to keep him home. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his loving wife Louise, his brothers Douglas and Gerald, and his sons Mike and Bill. Calling Hours will be on Thursday at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc. from 11am to 1 pm. Burial will follow at the Willow Glen Cemetery in Dryden.
