Michael L. Preston of Dryden, NY passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023 in Pensacola, FL where he was wintering with his wife, Marilyn Springer Preston.
Michael was born in Cortland, NY on December 2, 1952 the son of Howard and Dorothy Loomis Preston. He was a 1971 graduate of Cincinnatus Central School and served in the U.S. Air Force in New Mexico, Germany and Thailand from 1971-1975 as a jet aircraft electrician.
Upon discharge from the Air Force, Preston worked at Salsbury Fire Equipment Company for a time and then became employed by the City of Cortland, NY as Superintendent of Public Safety until his retirement in 2010.
Michael married Marilyn Springer of Cincinnatus on December 27,1975. He was proud and wonderfully supportive of their three children Nathan (Mary) Preston of Ft. Collins, CO, Courtney Tice of Clay, NY and Amanda (Josh) Kusske of Twain Harte, CA. His special delight were grandchildren Juliet Tice, Ethan Tice, Kallie Kusske, Nora Kusske and Amelia Kusske.
Preston was an enthusiast supporter of sports of all descriptions, especially Syracuse University. He also loved hunting and trapping. He was extremely proud of serving his country and was an avowed patriot who loved the United States.
He is survived by siblings Susan (Gary) Vleck, Gary Preston, Debra (Gordon) Valentine, Larry (Barb) Preston, Terry (Jackie) Preston, and Brad (Tracy) Preston.
He was predeceased by his parents and brother Richard.
A service of celebration of Michael’s life is being held on Monday, June 5 at 4 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc. If friends and family wish to honor Michael, the family suggests a contribution to Tunnels 2 Towers Foundation would be Michael’s choice.
