Obituary of Ann Wood

Our beloved Ann J. Wood, 81, of Freeville NY passed away peacefully at Crouse Hospital on April 20, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Ann was born March 15, 1942, the only child of Ruth Eades and Millard Wood. Ann married her high school sweetheart Donald Wood and was able to spend 33 years with him before his death in 1992. Before retiring, Ann served as a Manager at CT Farm and Country, a role that she loved and in which she was able to put her gifts of motivation and impressive attention to detail to work. She had a natural curiosity anddeep passion for learning across a wide range of interests. Ann was a voracious reader of novels, with Westerns being among her favorites. She also had an ongoing passion for NASCAR and would speak about it with anyone who was willing to listen. Ann was an outstanding conversationalist, as she had an impeccable memory for dates and events. It was common for Ann to remember a specific detail, worldly event or family occurrence from decades ago. These gifts, along with Ann’s intelligence, progressive outlook, sense of humor, and deep love for her family are among the attributes that made Ann a treasure who will be so greatly missed. Remaining to cherish Ann’s memory are her daughters Donna Lee (Richard) and Joan Costage (Raymond), grandchildren Nichole Lent (Kevin), Derek Glezen (Allison), Elizabeth Bremer (Mark), Kimberly Gabriel, Christopher Stull and 10 great-grandchildren. Preceding Ann in death are her husband Donald Wood, her daughter Cathryn Gabriel, and her parents Ruth Eades and Millard Wood. Visitation will be held April 26, 2023, 4 to 6 pm at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Avenue, Cortland, NY 13045.
