Born into the Port Alleghany, Pa. of Sunday afternoon rides along narrow meandering country
lanes with 40 or 45mph speed limits, Burma Shave signs touting rustic country living spent
seeking close shaves, lunker bass and canoe launches amid lazy afternoons, and leisure on the
‘open road’; and always the promise of bread and milk sufficient to stave off even a paddling
appetite… That and Tom Mix matinees made adequate sense of lives struggling through
depression, and much removed from the inhumane shadows brooding across the globe, but
still too far from our shores to claim any constant interest…
Oh Soul one step from Heaven, contentment was thy name; the depth, the breadth of martureo
did satisfy thy frame; and answer G-D Himself, He Who called You to the game, so perfectly
played…
Any life might be drawn as a sequence of events or meetings, each effective until time’s
inevitable turn replaces older with newer, plain with impressive, that by some apparently
unbreachable law of human consciousness which trades attention for transitory appeal,
eventually erasing all but the most indelible; they alone evoke hints of divine enduring but
fragmented truths… G-d’s fractional, flashing revelations to our broken once original, edenic
faculty…
Still, so long as the mind remains fresh and alert, those few encounters that permanently
impress(ed) our senses, cf. Job 19, stand, “graven with an iron pen and lead in the rock for
ever!”
And so is this Lady and her exquisite quintessential Christian character to me, though I knew
her here but a few years… She walked always but a step away from Jesus, Our shared Lord,
and always with her ear and heart listening for His Word, wherever, whenever, however the
‘sign’…
Ah, Janis Parker comes so frequently to mind, and so do two other impressions immediately
with her, as well… First, thoughts of Sarah Adams, the frail mid-19th century English hymnist
and poet who, in spite of chronic ill health, managed to compose one of the most enduring and
beloved military hymns, sung ‘round the world for memorial services, “Nearer, my God, to
Thee, nearer to Thee!”. Those words still echo from throughout my own military years, and
summon days that will never be very far away, undiminished by any passage of time. Sarah’s
same words reveal too Frauelein Froebel’s omnipresent peace…
Second, but no less apropos, lines from Goethe’s (the German Shakespeare) precious little lyric
poem, ,,Wanderers Nachtlied II”, that he dashed off and labeled simply, “A Likeness” [variation]
re to his original “Wanderers Nachtlied” [ a version nowhere near as famous now as version 2]
and from which I cannot escape the moment Janis Parker’s unassailably peaceful spirit comes
to mind, captured perfectly by Der Deutsche Meister’s verbal picture of divine calm…
Ueber allen Gipfeln Over all the mountaintops
Ist Ruh, Is peace
In allen Wipfeln In all the treetops
Spuerest du You sense
Kaum einen Hauch; hardly a breath;
Die Voegelein schweigen im Walde, The little birds keep hushed in the forest,Warte nur, balde Just wait, soon (enough)
Ruhest du auch. You too (will) rest. AUF WIEDERSEHEN, schoene Frau.

The light that shone so brightly in Janis continues to guide us, illuminating the path of faith, love, kindness and spirit she walked so gracefully. Her impact reverberates in countless hearts and inspires acts of tenderness each day. May warm memories comfort the Parker family during this time; rest assured we share your sorrow and hold you close in thoughts and prayers. Despite her departure, Janis' legacy endures through stands of compassion unforeseen—we remain united under her radiant glow.

We want to give our sincerest condolences to the Froebel and Parker families, relatives and friends on the passing of Janis Parker.
Through our friendship and subsequent learning about sharing our DNA history from her son, John Froebel-Parker, we came to know and care for Janis.
There wasn't a day that John didn't think or speak about how much his mother meant to him and through these interactions in sharing with us, we came to know the intelligent, warm, kind person she was.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Love,
Linda Signorelli Schatzabel
