Obituary of Dorla Taylor

Dorla Taylor passed away peacefully July 4, 2023 at the Cortland Guthrie Nursing Facility with family by her side. Dorla was born June 12, 1937 at 2449 Page Green Rd in Virgil NY, the home of her parents Teenor and Alma Johnson. She graduated from Virgil High School (class size of 12) in 1954 and married Richard “Dick” Taylor in August of that year. She worked much of her adult life at Homer National Bank (now Key Bank). After retiring from the bank she spent many years caring for her aging parents and other elderly disabled members of the community. Dorla enjoyed collecting miniature antiques and had an encyclopedic knowledge of many items. She was well known at many antique shops, auctions, and flea markets. She was also quick to send a card or note to her cherished friends and relatives to mark a special occasion. She was predeceased by her parents Alma and Teenor Johnson, her husband of 55 years Richard, her brother Carl Johnson, her sister Elsa Ross, brother in law Charles “sonny” Taylor, her sister in law Alice Johnson. Dorla is survived by her sons Dale (Kathy) Taylor of Virgil, Mark (Karen Witbeck) Taylor of Indian Land SC, grandchildren Sara, Matt, Hannah, and Bethany, her sister and brother in law Viola and John Storie, many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Cortland Guthrie Nursing Facility, especially Shelby Edgerly and N.P. Becky Wahl. Also many thanks to the many friends and family who visited or called on her during Dorla’s extended stay with special thanks to Joanne Sweeney, Sue Sandy, Sue Porter, Diane Higgins, Carol McMahon, Vicky Delaney, Katie Kerr, and Greg Joanie Darling. Per Dorla’s wishes there are no calling hours, a celebration of her life will be held on August 26 at the Virgil Methodist Church at 10:30 am.
