Johannes Ahrens, 90, of Spencerport, New York passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2023. Johannes was born on May 13, 1933 in Putten Netherlands. He is predeceased by his parents Hendrik Ahrens and Elbertje Koetsier Ahrens; brothers Peter, Teunis, Hendrik, and Gijsbert; sisters Gijsje Havenaar and Henny Mix. He is survived by his beloved wife Barbara Ahrens; son James (Judy) Ahrens, daughters Mary Ellen (Alan) Hunt and Susan (David) Beach; Grandchildren: Kristy, Karen, Mary, Sean, Ashley, Kimberly and Jesse; Great Grandchildren Jack, Luke, Julian, Olivia, George, Riley, Jackson, Farrah, Dustin, and Donar. He is also survived by his brother Jan Ahrens and sister Willy (Al) Arnold of Cortland; and sister Jannie v't Slot of Ermelo, Netherlands. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Johannes better known as "Joop" was a devoted husband and father. He loved his beautiful wife "Barb," who he called his "vrouw" up until the end. They had a wonderful life together. Their devotion and love for each other was remarkable. Joop also loved to play sports throughout his life, watch sports on TV, travel, jigsaw puzzles, and most of all take long walks with his sweetheart, Barb. Johannes served in the United States Army from 1954-1956. He spent the next 14 years working at Smith Corona in Cortland. Johannes and his family moved to Rochester, where he worked for Eastman Kodak as a tool and die maker until his retirement in 1989. A brief celebration of life will be held on Sunday August 13, 2023 at 12pm, at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland, NY.
