Obituary of Richard Lee Rice

Richard Lee "Dick" Rice, 77 of Groton passed away on September 6, 2023 at Cayuga Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born on July 18, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan, a son of the late Orvile "Hank" and Bessie Smithkin Rice. Dick retired from Cornell University where he worked as a Specialty Welder, he previously worked at Pall Trinity. He loved welding, hunting and especially spending time with his grandchildren. Dick is survived by his loving wife, Judy, two daughters, Kristie (James) Gifford-Robinson, Kimberlee (Chad) Smith, two grandchildren, Liam Smith and Allie Robinson, sister in law, Karen Rice as well as several nieces and nephews. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in the McLean Cemetery. Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc is assisting the family with arrangements. A celebration of life will be held 1 PM, September 17, 2023 at the McLean Fire Department, 2 Stevens Rd., Mclean, NY 13102. Memorial Contributions can be made to McLean Fire Department.
