My memory of John was his wonderful tasteful fiddle playing, laughing eyes on stage, silly funny jokes, and always being the consummate Country Gentleman. He stood next to me onstage, I with my bass. I remember the time playing at a Stag party,... in a Biker bar! ... Complete with a malfunctioning movie projector, Celluloid flutter piling up on a dirty floor,... And Nobody Even Noticing, because they had turned their backs on the screen, and were all staring open mouthed and stunned at John playing "Orange Blossom Special" at Volume 10, and at his typical controlled & breakneck speed! And all the while grinning ear to ear! He and I locked laughing eyes, and I will NEVER forget that moment! Man!... His fiddle was-on-Fire! God Bless You John! Your Fan & Friend, Lorraine Messitt.

I always had respect for John and when in Cortland for the summer, I would see him walking Tompkins or Broadway area, and always made eye contact. You’ll be missed my friend. Gary Coon

John & I graduated HCHS together. We ran in separate crowds, but I know he played in a band. And played very well. Play for the Heavens now John. Condolences to your extended family & friends.

The one period in my life that I played live music, it was in a bluegrass band with John. It was back in the early 1980's and I have fond memories of that time. R.I.P. John.

I worked with Johnny for many years at Agway and he was always a bright spot in my day. We had so many laughs together. I tried to keep in touch with him after he retired but life is so busy and you don't keep in touch like you would like to. I am so heart broken over his passing. He was a wonderful man who was married to a wonderful woman. They were a match made in heaven. I love you Johnny and will miss you. You were a dear friend to me.

Back in the day, late 80's John was patient and kind with those of us who didn't know music as well as he did.
Sing on brother sing on.
