Obituary of Charles K. Wanish Jr.

Charles K. Wanish Jr., 70, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, passed away on Saturday February 3, 2024. He was born on June 5, 1953 in Cortland, New York to his parents the late Charles K. and Mary Patricia McNamara. Charles was a graduate of Homer High School class of 1972. He went on to pursue an education in funeral service at Simmon's School of Mortuary Science graduating in 1981. He went on to serve a year of residency then went on to purchase Scott Funeral Home in Newark, NY. After selling the business, Charles sold residential real estate in Virginia, Maryland, and South Carolina. He was a member and past president of the Wayne County Funeral Directors Association, a past member of the National Funeral Directors Association and the New York State Funeral Directors Association. He was also a member of the Newark Elks #1249, The Newark Country Club, Newark Rotary club as well as a past member of the Cortland Moose Club. Charles was an avid bowler, golfer, and hunter. He is survived by his daughter Stacey (Wilfredo) Wanish-Sifuentes of Virginia Beach, Virginia, his son Brandon Wanish of Florida, grandchildren Luca and Eli Sifuentes, a brother John (Angela) Wanish, his nephew Ryan Wanish, and his dog DeLaney. Charles was predeceased by his parents, his wife Patricia 2019, daughter Lindsay in 2007, son Andrew in 1986, brother James, sister Mary, his aunt Theresa Fitzgerald, and dogs Onyx and Sasha. Calling hours will be on Saturday February 17, 2024 from 9:30-10:30am at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am at the St. Mary's Church, 46 N. Main St., Cortland, NY. Entombment will follow at the Cortland Rural Cemetery mausoleum.
