This picture exemplifies the carefree and fun energy Mom had when undertaking new family adventures exploring new places and trying out new things. The picture was taken right before the family went on a 2013 cruise out of Miami to the Caribbean. All smiles, wearing big fun sunglasses and her excited jazz hands, she’s one beautiful lady, inside and out!

This is one of my most favorite photos of Mom as it encompasses the spirit of who she was. She had such a joyful, positive outlook on life and always showed enthusiasm for us in all we did or aspired to do. She was most certainly our biggest cheerleader. I always loved to share with her the things that were exciting to me because I knew she would be just as excited about them as I was. I always looked to hear her words of advice in times when I was unsure and when I was sad she always uplifted me with her encouragement and faith that everything would work out and that it was all happening for a reason. To hear her speak those words made me feel sure and always calmed me.
I will carry her with me always as she is imprinted on my heart. She will live in my mind and in my heart and be guiding me from here on.

Mom inspired me with all of her kind and gentle ways, with her strong spirit and in how she lived her life and she will continue to inspire me and be with me all my days.
I will look to pull the positive out of my struggles, and strive to have gratitude always reside in my heart.
And in the spirit of Mom who started her painting journey at 60, I’ll never stop trying new things.
I will go forward with optimism and enthusiasm as I know she would want me to. I will talk about her and share her wisdom with my children, my granddaughters and many others.
She most definitely will go on…
On her 92nd birthday I lit her candles and told her to make a wish and without hesitation she said, “I wish I could do it all over again.” It was wonderful hearing that and a true testament to how much she loved her life.
I think Mom surprised us all when she decided she wanted to skydive for her 80th birthday. I was so in awe of her bravery, and wrote a poem about it for her afterward it’s called a cloud named Millie:
There's a cloud named "Millie" way up high, and let me tell you the reason why.
A little lady chose one day
to cast all doubt and fear away
and grasp the faith within her heart that's been there from the very start.
Faith is what it takes to be
so full of joy it's plain to see.
She never ceases to inspire,
to set goals high and never tire. And to see this world from a bird's-eye view is something she desired to do.
So a sky dive venture at age 80 was the goal for this little lady. She dropped down from the sky so blue and named the cloud that she passed through.
In that cloud that gorgeous day "Millie is its name." she'd say. Pursue your dreams with no fear or doubt that's really what life's all about.
And on March 21st this was her fate, her comment after, "It was great!"
So look up in the sky and don't feel silly,
say "Hi" to a cloud named Millie.
Life is short, and we spend a lot of precious time on the fence with our doubts and fears about things. Maybe it’s time that we “do a Millie” and just grab hold of our faith and jump…

My mother was the embodiment of strength, dignity, devotion, wisdom, compassion, forgiveness, generosity, humor, and most of all, love. These qualities she put into all things, and what she strived to do above all else was to listen, learn from, and understand all of us that she came into contact with for the purpose of loving us all uniquely and to be closer to God. The little childhood song “Jesus Loves Me” helped usher her into the Church’s loving embrace as a young woman, and it was a relationship she kept close to her heart every day of her life. On the back of your programs is a prayer to God that Mom would say upon awakening each day. Let’s close by all saying it together.
“Dear Lord. I am here to read and listen to your word, to love your people and to do your will. Shine your loving light on my path and guide me through this day.”

My Mom loved receiving flowers, and I am one of her biggest admirers so I would love sending them, but she really got tickled when I would return from a nature walk with a bouquet of wildflowers I picked for her.
Here she is in 2014 with a small bunch I picked for her and she’s wearing a crystal necklace I had brought for her from a San Francisco street fair.
She was all smiles and so pretty. It’s a favorite pic since it shows how Mom appreciated small acts of kindness done with love and marveled at the beauty of nature.

Breakfast in Edgewater
Echoes of chirps bounce back and forth. Nature’s alarm clock. Piercing sounds turn to soothing coos as birds tell their morning stories. Hands rub tired eyes while gleams of yellow begin to peak through the curtains. Waking up a little sore after a sweaty uncomfortable sleep on floral cushions. A night that was filled with bites that felt like a stab of static electricity, jolting the body. Like touching a doorknob after sweeping your socks over carpet. Are these microscopic monsters with T-Rex teeth even real or are they a Papa prank implanted in the subconscious? Every night before he goes to bed, he laughs a little guttural laugh and says, ‘I got em’.
Comforting coffee smells fill the air while the faint fireworks of egg pops sizzle. A quiet raucous is made by people trying their hardest not to wake others while trying their hardest to wake others. Voices lightly murmur to each other and infectious childlike giggles reverberate through walls, fully breaking the silence. “I brought muffins” Aunt Peggy says, followed by another giggle. Nana chimes in and says, “We have orange juice. It’s made fresh.” Nana puts another orange in the juicer and pulpy liquid plops into a cup. “Do you want oatmeal?” I responded with “sure”, but wanted to say ‘not really’. A bowl full of a glue like substance lightly covered with brown sugar waits at the table. I slowly spoon the thick and filling substance into my mouth and force a swallow. I do this multiple times until the bowl is empty and I say “That was good” while I drown the taste out with some orange juice and a buttery cornbread muffin.
Conversation full of laughs encompasses the room while a hand adorned with long fingernails traces up and down my back. The fingernails stop for a moment and I turn to look, like a puppy who’s not ready for the pets to stop. The nails start to trace again, drawing endless roads and paths…
