Obituary of Joseph J. Speicher Jr.

It is with deep sadness we share the passing of Dr. Joseph J. Speicher, Jr., age 65, who left us on June 1, 2024. The son of Dr. Joseph J. Speicher, Sr., (deceased) and Theresa (Smith) Speicher (deceased), he was born in Cortland, attended City of Cortland schools (CHS Class of 1976), and graduated from the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. After working with dentists in Dryden, he joined his father and continued the dental practice until his own retirement in 2020. Joe served multiple terms on the New York State Board for Dentistry, and was active in the Sixth District Dental Society. Joe was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Krista. He is survived by his sons, Dr. Paul J. Speicher (Lisa) of Huntsville, AL, and John M. Speicher of Cortland, as well as three grandchildren, Eloise, Bennett, and Henry, whom he adored. He is also survived by four sisters, Maureen (John) Marshall, Kathryn Speicher, Joanne (Stephen) Hassel, and Theresa (David) Anderson, four nieces, four nephews, and several other loving family members. Joe was a friend to many, a devoted father and grandfather, and a great storyteller. His sharp wit and generous spirit extended far beyond family and friends into the community he served for so many years. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but leaves us with many cherished memories. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 15th, at Wright-Beard Funeral Home.
