Joan (Newcomb) Lockwood, 93, of Auburn, NY (formerly Cuyler, NY) passed away August 12, 2024. Joan was born in Syracuse, NY, August 5th, 1931, the daughter of Kenneth C. Newcomb and Joyce W. Newcomb. A graduate of DeRuyter High School class of 1949, Joan was married to Leonard (Bud) Lockwood of Truxton, NY, December 30, 1949. Joan worked as a telephone operator in Cortland, NY, followed by employment at Cortland Line, a manufacturer of fishing line and parachute cords. Later, Joan joined her father's Ford Automobile dealership in Cuyler, NY, where she worked for many years as office manager. When the Ford dealership moved to Cortland, NY, she continued to work until her retirement. After her retirement, Joan volunteered for many years at Contact Community Services, Syracuse, NY, a crisis counseling hotline and referral service, where she provided a sympathetic and hopeful ear to anyone in need. Throughout her life her kindness and ability to listen touched the lives of countless people. Joan is survived by her husband of 75 years, Bud Lockwood of Auburn, NY; son, David Lockwood (Eileen), Camillus NY; daughter, Carol Lockwood, Auburn, NY; 5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and nephew William Newcomb, Auburn, NY. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 22, from 4:00-6:00 pm at Wright Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave, Cortland, NY. Private burial will be at Glenwood Cemetary, Cortland, NY.
