Obituary of Beverly Congdon

Beverly Congdon, 86, of Cortland, NY passed away on Wednesday August 28, 2024. She was born on October 22, 1937, the daughter of the late Arthur and Frances Dutton Butler. Beverly was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a lifelong resident of the area, graduating from Homer High School in 1955. She lived in Truxton for over 50 years, where she was a dedicated member of the Truxton Methodist Church. Beverly worked at Smith Corona prior to attending Onondaga Madison BOCES, where she became an LPN and began a long career of caring for others. Beverly was a huge Syracuse Orange fan. In her free time, she enjoyed dancing, skating, traveling, coaching sports, and was an avid bowler, making it into the Local Bowling Hall of Fame as well as many national bowling tournaments. Beverly is survived by her children Karyn (Jim) Vunk, Kimberly Congdon, Kelly Nickols, and Kristi (Steve Wrobel) Craig, her siblings Donald (Terry) Butler and Bonnie (Wayne) Coon, her grandchildren Jason (Joy) Vunk, Athena (Chad) Vunk, Maere Vunk, Jennifer (Carl) Lewis, Joshua Congdon, Ashley (Dillon) Nickols, Alicia (Andre) Nickols, Nathan (Stacy) Craig, Matthew (Jenna) Wrobel and Gerad Wrobel, her 18 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren, her several cousins Maryann, Judy, and Sparky, and many great granddogs. In addition to her parents, Beverly is predeceased by her husband Gerald Congdon and her brother William (Marna) Butler. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday September 4, 2024 from 3-7pm, at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland, NY. A graveside service will be held on Thursday September 5, 2024 at 11:30am, at the Virgil Cemetery.
