Obituary of James D. Caughey

James D. Caughey, 73, of Cortland passed away November 13, 2024 at the Groton Community Health Care Center. Jim was a lifelong resident of Cortland, having grown up in one of the oldest homes on Madison Street, which the family has owned for many years dating back to 1864. Jim was a graduate of Cortland High School, class of 1969. Soon after, he joined the United States Army, serving from 1969-1975. He earned several medals, including the Army Commendation Medal and the Bronze Star, during his service in the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge and returning home, Jim worked as a machinist for several companies in Syracuse. He was an avid woodworker, throughout his life and loved watching movies. He is survived by a sister, a son, daughter in law and grandson. Jim was pre deceased by his sister, Rosemary and his parents Elmer and Betty Caughey.
