Obituary of D. Todd Smith

D. Todd Smith, 57, of Cortland, passed away on December 17, 2024. Todd was born on March 4, 1967 to Duane Bernard Smith and Barbara May Oeschle Smith and grew up in Williamsville, NY. His tireless curiosity and work ethic led him to earn a bachelor’s degree in Physics from SUNY Fredonia and a bachelor’s in Engineering followed by a master’s in Electrical Engineering from the University of Buffalo. He married fellow Fredonia alum, Theresa Morganti of Syracuse, on October 17, 1992. The Smith family is eternally grateful to Todd for his love and the pride he took in providing for his wife and children. Throughout his career as a Software Engineer for water filtration systems, he traveled around the world, and he kept learning in his spare time. He was a constant and loving presence in his children’s lives and provided everything they needed to succeed, always excited to share his knowledge and genuinely interested in learning from them. Todd cherished his dogs, was famous for his homemade chili and pizza, and took great joy in holding his newborn granddaughter. He is survived by his loving wife Theresa, his children Tamsin (Nigel) van der Woude, Meryl, and Alex, granddaughter Eleni van der Woude, sister Kathiann Robinson, brother Timothy (Sandra), and nephews Parker and Preston. Calling hours will be held at Wright Beard Funeral Home, Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland Thursday, December 26 th  from 4-6pm and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Cortland on Friday, December 27 th  at 10:30AM.
