Obituary of George S. Ottenschot

George S. Ottenschot, 80, of Cortland, NY, passed away on December 30, 2024. Born on October 20, 1944, in Cortland, George was a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from St. Mary's high school in the class of 1962. After high school, he joined the Army and proudly served in the National Guard.
After his service, George joined the Local Union 12 in Syracuse as a Union Carpenter, working his way up to role the role of Project Manager. George's last job before retirement was heading up the SUNY Cortland sports stadium for Hueber-Breuer Construction Company of Syracuse. He was also very proud of building the emergency room addition at Cortland Regional Medical Center Hospital.
George had a love for wood working and was a quality craftsman, second to none. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and was always known as the go-to handyman, always eager to lend a helping hand to family and those around him. His kind and generous nature made him a beloved figure to family, friends, and community members alike.
George is survived by his devoted wife of 27 years, Dolores; his children: Michelle (Gary Parker Jr), Brian and Edward Ottenschot; his stepchildren: Toni (Andy San Jule) and Kim (Mike Swartwout); his Grandchildren: Mallory, Molly, Brittany, Brock, BethAnn, Shea, Alexandra, Emily, Bryanna, Cooper, Nathan, Burt, and Billie Gene, as well as 10 Great Grandchildren.
In addition, George is also survived by his sister Maria San Jule, sister Joanne Norton (Bob) and brother Bob Ottenschot (Robin).
He is predeceased by his parents, George and Marie Ottenschot, his 1st wife, Judy Lawrence, his sister, Diane Kinnicutt and his brother-in-law, Bob San Jule.
George's eldest grandson, Brock Kinney provided unwavering care and support to his grandfather during his final years, demonstrating extraordinary love, dedication, and compassion. His selflessness brought comfort and peace to the entire family, and his efforts will always be remembered with deep gratitude
Calling hours will be held on Friday January 17, 2025 from 10-11am at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland, NY, with a memorial service at 11. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery, 4101 West Rd., Cortland, NY.
