Obituary of Buel D. Strong

Buel D. Strong, 89, of Cortland, NY passed away Monday, June 20, 2011 at Cortland Regional Medical Center.
He was born August 13, 1921 in Tully, NY, a son of the late Grover C. and Emma Damon Strong and was a Cortland resident most of his life.
Buel proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He operated the family dairy farm in Otisco Valley for many years while also working at Brewer-Titchener Corp. He was also employed by Brockway Motors and retired from Carrier Corp.
He was an avid bowler and golfer for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, listening to music and watching golf and his beloved Yankees on TV.
His memberships included the V. F.W. and the American Legion. His past memberships include the Preble Congregational Church, the Homer Avenue Methodist Church and the Cortland Senior Citizens.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Timothy) Towle of Cortland; a son, William, (Diane) Strong of Jamesville, NY; grandchildren, Heather (Carl) Petroziello of Lockport, NY, Michelle Strong and Julie Strong of Jamesville, NY and great-granddaughters, Marlea and Laci Petroziello of Lockport, NY. He is also survived by a sister, Eva Smith, of Elbridge, NY and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Ruth, in 2009 and a brother, Carl Strong, in 1997.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc., 9 Lincoln Avenue, Cortland with burial to follow at the Cortland Rural Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held from 4-7 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions in Mr. Strongs name may be made to the American Lung Association or to a charity of ones choice.
