Obituary of Irene M. DeOrsey

Irene M. DeOrsey passed away in her Elbridge home on June 11, 2011. Mrs. DeOrsey was born in Solon, New York on Sept. 4 1926 to Nita Hall Marion and Lester B. Marion. In 1944 she graduated from McGraw High School as the class salutatorian, continuing to Crouse-Irving School of Nursing where she graduated with the class of 1947. Her nursing career consisted of serving to this nation as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force Nursing Corp. from 1951 to 1953. After her discharge from the military, she returned to the Northeast where she pursued her career in nursing in such diverse areas as a college infirmary, doctors offices and nursing homes. Her greatest professional pleasure was caring for newborns, both in San Antonio, Texas and Cortland, New York Hospitals. She was proud to be a longtime member of the Cortland County Retired Nurses Association.
She was wed to Normand V. DeOrsey of Brunswick, Maine from 1953 until his death in 2007. Mrs. DeOrsey resided in McGraw for over 45 years, after which she moved to a new home in Elbridge, New York.
She is survived by and will be missed by her daughters Debra DeOrsey Liebling, currently from Calgary, Alberta, and Tam DeOrsey of Jordan, New York, as well as their spouses, Richard Liebling and Sean Ennulat. She also leaves behind four devoted grandchildren- Marissa and Brianna Liebling of Chicago and Tase and Colin Ennulat of Jordan. Her four surviving siblings include: Willis (Betty) Marion, Ivan (Eleanor) Marion, Lois (Robert) Fox and Shirley Dickens.
A private graveside ceremony will be held.

Dear Family, Please accept my sympathy for the loss of your mother. I was fortunate to work with her at what was then Cortland Memorial Hospital on the Maternity Ward. She was a very professional nurse and a good person. It was a pleasure to know her. God bless you all.
