Samuel A. Cincotta, Sr. 92, of 37A Homer Avenue, Cortland, died Saturday, May 21st, at Cortland Regional Medical Center.
Born, June 8, 1918, son of Angelo Cincotta and Catherine Mirabito Cincotta in Cortland, New York.
Sam began his working career selling home grown fresh vegetables from a two wheeled push cart going door to door in Cortlands east end, later acquiring a 1946 Ford pickup truck painted with Sammy Cincottas on the door. Sam became an amateur boxer and played saxophone in the Cortland Marching Band. He enlisted in the Army in 1942. After his discharge he held various positions at Wilson Tennis Company, Cortland Line, Cortland Crescent and Cortland Overhead Door. In 1947 Sam received his barbering license, opening a barber shop at his home in South Cortland after work hours from the Overhead Door Company. He later expanded his barber shop business to include Dryden where he also became a landlord and a house builder, and also with the help of his wife and sons operated Cincottas Greenhouse until 1964.
He is survived by his sons, Samuel A. (Janice) Cincotta Jr., John J. (Pamela) Cincotta, of Cortland, Michael A. (Kathryn) Cincotta of Homer, step-son Kenneth Radell and wife, Linda Radell of Glen Allen, VA, step-daughter, Patricia (Radell) Wartman and husband, Rick Wartman of Seven Lakes West, NC; 12 grandchildren and step grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and great step grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 53 years Audrey (Van Buskirk) Cincotta in 2001, brothers Angelo and Bartolo, sisters Mary Iacano, Bertha Galletta, Antoinette Stewart, Agnes Cincotta, josephine Cincotta, Cecelia Ray, and Elizabeth Phillips.
Calling hours will be 4-6 pm on Thursday, May 26th at Wright Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Avenue, Cortland, New York. There will be a funeral mass at St. Marys Roman Catholic Church at 11 am on Friday, May 27th. Interment will be at St. Marys Cemetery on West Road in Cortland immediately following mass. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Anthony of Padua Church, St. Marys Roman Catholic Church or St. Marys School €¦all of Cortland.
