Elmer C. Frenchy" or Coy French, 93, of Yong St., Cortland NY , passed away May 19, 2011 at the Cortland Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born September 28, 1917 Victory NY , the son of the late Oral and Minnie Phillips French.
Frenchy was raised and educated in Truxton. He worked for his brother Bac as a carpenter before entering the military. He served with the U.S. Army during WWII in the Pacific Theatre for three years before being honorably discharged. Upon his return home, Frenchy worked at Thompson Boat Co.,Mary Carter Paint Co. and retired from Parker Elementary School where he had worked as a custodian for many years.
He was a life member of the DAV, VFW, and American Legion. In his spare time he enjoyed playing cards; listening to and dancing to music of the WWII era.
Frenchy or Coy as his family and friends called him is survived by his sister Rosalia Bailey of Syracuse, niecea Mary Jain Dayger of Edmeston NY,Sue McHale of Syracuse NY,nephews Ronald Bailey of Manlius NY, Richard Bailey of Camillus NY, Sue McHale of Syracuse NY, John French of Brockport NY, Donald and Charles French both of Truxton NY.
He was predeceased by his wife Alberta French in 2007, brothers Carlyle, Grant, and Arthur, sister Iva, and his parents.
A calling hour will be held Tuesday 12-1 pm with a funeral to begin 1 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland NY. Burial will follow at the Truxton Cemetery with military honors.
