Obituary of Carolyn D. Beard

Carolyn D. Beard passed away surrounded by her family on April 3, 2011 at her home in Austin, Texas. Mrs. Beard was born on January 29, 1919 in Birdsall, NY, the daughter of the late Cash and Edith Davison.
She graduated from Geneseo Normal in 1938 and received her Bachelors degree from the University of New York at Geneseo in 1946. She received her Masters Degree in education specializing in reading in 1963 from the University of Virginia. She retired from teaching as a reading specialist in 1979 from Cortland BOCES. She had been a member of the Diana Court No. 54 Order of Amaranth in Cortland. She lived in the Cortland area from 1963 until her husbands death in 2010 and upon retirement she worked as a volunteer for the Cortland Chamber of Commerce, Cortland Memorial Hospital, and Cortland County Agency for the Aged.
Mrs. Beard is survived by her two sons; Doug (Sabrina) Beard of Austin TX, and James (Sheila) Beard of Walkersville MD, three sisters Eleanor Gosper, Noreen Hall, and Beverly Trimble, six grandchildren; Garth Beard, Douglas Beard Jr., Kimberly Urban, Jeffrey Beard, Brian Beard, and Ashley Gass; four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Beard is predeceased by her husband Mervin Beard and three brothers, Robert Davison, Bid Davison, and Richard Davison. Mrs. Beard and her late husband had a great life together and loved living in Cortland County. Thanks to the many residents who made Cortland such a special place to them.
A calling hour will be held Thursday 12-1 pm with a funeral to begin 1 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave Cortland NY. Burial will follow at the Glenwood Cemetery, Homer NY.

Carolyn was a loyal volunteer with the RSVP program for many years. She generously gave her time teaching ceramics through the Cortland Senior Center for over 25 years. We are sorry for your loss. RSVP Program
