Jim Ochsner PER Fort Myers FL Mrs. Scheffler, My name is Barry Cronin. You and I have met only once very briefly. I only knew your husband 24 hours. It was the last 24 hours of his life. I was his room mate at St. joseph's hospital. In that short period of time, under those stressful conditions, we formed a little bond. I feel that if we had known each other earlier in life we would have been good friends. On that day we found we were both watching the same TV show, "Holmes on Holmes". We started talking about how we liked the show and the need to watch out for unscrupulous contractors. He told me a story about your oil heat vendor and a very expensive upgrade they said you needed and how you and he had fought back and found a new, less expensive supplier. He ended his story with the remark that the old vendor tried to get your business back but "my wife told him where to go!" I could see in his eyes and in his smile how proud he was of you and the life and family you had built together. And then, sitting there with smile of his face, he simply passed away. No pain, no suffering, just good thoughts floating through his head. Please also know that the hospital nurses and doctors did everything they could. I have never witnessed such a quick, caring and vital response. I know Richard is with God in heaven now and I am so sorry for your loss. You are in my prayers and may God give you the strength to carry on his legacy with the family you built together. Barry Cronin Rich play football for me when i started at Frontier in 1955 and was also a student in class. He often soppoed to see me when he returned to the area. Love, the Wisconsin Schefflers Kathy and family, our deepest condolences in your recent loss. I had the pleasure of working with Dick back in the 70s. He was a great guy and always brought a lot of laughter into the squad room. His dedication to the Cortland Elks is second to no one. You should be proud of him and his contributions to the State Police and the Cortland community. Gary P. Allen and family To the Scheffler Family: I am at a loss for words as probably most with Rich's passing. It was not that long ago that I was at the wake for his brother Ray. I did not get a chance to talk to Rich and it was many, many years since I had last seen him. The Lord has blessed me with poetry and I wrote this poem for the Scheffler family. Sadly today I have added Rich's name to the poem. Please accept my sincere condolences on your loss and praise God for his life and the short time he touched mine as he did so many. God Bless Remembering the Scheffler?s So many, many years ago, when I was oh so young, there would be the Scheffler?s helping others and having fun. Ray Sr. was our youth leader, Ron and Ray drove the church van?s. No matter what you needed, look to the Scheffler?s, for they were the men. Now as the time has passed by so quickly, Ray Sr., Ron and Ray Jr. has been called home. They are now together with Jesus, leaving us unfortunately all alone. So lets remember the good times, let our tears be just a few, one day we will all be together, for now all I can say is ?thank you?! Yes, thank you Ray Sr., Rich and also to the Scheffler twins, I will always remember your kindness, and yes, those Scheffler grins! E. P.
