Iva M. Wakula,77, of 19 Wadsworth St., Cortland, passed away surrounded by family Sunday February 20, 2011 at St. josephs Hospital, Syracuse, NY. Iva was born October 14, 1933 in Whitney Point the daughter of the late Earl and Christina Wallace Andrews.
Iva had been a longtime resident of the area. She loved bowling and all of her bowling friends. Over the years she had participated in various local leagues. Iva enjoyed bowling in the Senior Games and had received numerous medals. Her greatest love and joy was her family, spending time together or just talking. Iva enjoyed all she met and will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.
Iva is survived by her loving husband of 58 years Thaddeus Wakula, her two daughters; Thadine (Carl) Collier of Auburn and Vickie (Michael) Walczak of Cortland. One son Christopher (Sherry) Wakula of Waterloo. One sister; Bertha Cornish of Syracuse. Five grandchildren; Jennifer (Wesley Wright) Collier, Kathryn Collier, Kerstein (Rich) Bishop, Brandon and Nicholas Wakula. Six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Her longtime neighbor and close friend Martha Hines.
Mrs. Wakula was predeceased by her sisters; Esther, Hazel and Ada.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday 4:00-7:00 PM at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave, Cortland. Burial and committal will take place later in the spring in St. Anthonys Cemetery in Groton.
