James A. Ferro, age 79, of Abdallah Ave., Cortland NY, died February 15, 2011. He was at home, surrounded by his immediate family and friends
.
He leaves his wife of 50 years, Ida Beattie Ferro; his daughter, Roxanne Underwood, Tampa, FL; his son, Charles Ferro and his wife, Irma, Manlius, NY; his grandchildren, Shelly Zikmund, Tampa, FL; Stanley Zattosky III, Brandon, FL; Caitlin Ferro, Manlius, NY; James Ferro, Manlius, NY; and great-grandchildren, Stanley Zattosky IV and Hailey Zikmund, their beloved dachshund Katie.
Born and raised in Cortland, NY on October 10, 1931, a son of the late Celestino and Madelena Ferro, James was brother to Mary Patriarco, Anna Pennello, Tina (Jim) Paul, Samuel (Maebelle) Ferro, Esther Stiles (deceased), Robert (Patricia) Ferro, Patty Durkee, and Richard (Marie) Ferro.
In his early years, Mr. Ferro was a member of the Pine Street Gang, played semi-pro football, and joined the Air Force, serving his country in the Korean War. He later met Ida Beattie at Melodyland; they married in 1960 at the United Presbyterian Church of Cortland, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this past October.
James was employed with Smith Corona Corp., Brockway Motors, and most recently with Cortland Line Company. retiring in 1994. He was an avid New York Giants and New York Yankee fan, and also enjoyed watching various sporting events.
Calling hours will be held Thursday 2-3:45 pm with a funeral to begin 4 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home inc., 9 Lincoln Ave Cortland NY.
