Faye A. Spiegel, 79, of Hamlin Street, Cortland passed away November 27 at Cortland Care Center after a battle with Alzheimers disease. She was born on October 4, 1931 in the Borough of Queens, New York, the daughter of the late John and Anne Kenney Gassert.
Faye has been a longtime resident of Cortland, active in Grace Episcopal Church, a prominent member of the Cortland Art League and a member of the Homer Eastern Star. She was a talented artist having one of her paintings hanging in what is now H.S.B.C. Bank on Main Street in Cortland. Faye also enjoyed being a private pilot and flew out of the Cortland County Airport.
She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Glenn, daughters Lila (Allen) Phillips of McGraw, Amanda (Ken) Rushing of Maryland, son Bruce (Jean) Spiegel of Ballston Lake, a sister Gladys Lerman of Florida, grandchildren Artemas (Melissa) Rookman, Justin Rookey, Lauren and Sophia Spiegel, and great-grandson Vanyel.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday, December 1 at the Grace Episcopal Church, 13 Court Street in Cortland. Friends may call on Tuesday, November 30 from 3:00 to 6:00PM at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Avenue in Cortland, New York. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Fayes name to Grace Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 13 Court Street, PO Box 170, Cortland, NY 13045 or to Alzheimers Association, Central New York Chapter at 441 West Kirkpatrick Street, Syracuse, NY 13204.
