Obituary of Sylvia E. VanAtta

Sylvia Bliss VanAtta, 87, a lifelong resident of Cincinnatus, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, July 12, 2010 at Cortland Regional Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Jacob Thomas VanAtta, who passed away July 31, 2005. She has been a woman of strong Christian character and faithfulness to the Lord and to her husband and family.
Born on Oct. 7, 1922 in Cortland, she was the daughter of the late Clyde S. Bliss and the late Irene Totman Bliss. She was a graduate of Cincinnatus Central School and SUNY of Canton. Sylvia was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Cincinnatus and was formerly the financial secretary and a Sunday school teacher for many years.
She is survived by two children, Cheryl Lynne Jack and husband Jerry of Cincinnatus and Brad VanAtta and wife Cheryl of Lynchburg, VA; six grandchildren, Danny Jack and wife Jenny of Cincinnatus, Kedron Storey and husband Matthew of Rock Hill, SC, Kara Kwak and husband Bryan of Cincinnatus, Derek Jack of Marathon, Justin VanAtta of Charlotte, NC and Andrew VanAtta of Lynchburg, VA; and 10 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Thurs., July 15, 2010 by the Rev. David T. Perrott at the First Baptist Church of Cincinnatus. Private interment will follow in North Pitcher Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.
