James Marks, 78 , of Cortland, passed away November 5, 2013 at the Crown Center Nursing Facility. He was born October 3, 1935 in Spencer NY. James was employed at Cooper Tools for over 40 years retiring in 2000. He was an avid NASCAR and NFL fan rooting for Dale Ernhardt Jr. and the Dallas Cowboys. James served with the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1961. He is survived by his sons James (Debbie) Marks, his daughter Penny (Steve) Kane, daughter in law Connie Marks, grandchildren Heather (Arnold) Shortsleeve, Jennifer (Chris) Krebs, Sean and Kayla Kane, great grandchildren Emily Marks, Ashley, and Jordan Shortsleeve, his brothers Alan (Delores) Marks, Ernie (Delores) Grant, nieces and nephews. James was predeceased by his wife Marlea Marks and his son Kevin Marks. Calling hours will be Thursday (Tonite) 6-8 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland NY. A funeral service will be held Friday 11 am at Wright-Beard Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Cortland Rural Cemetery.
